Our students work hard to prepare themselves for each of the 5 exams necessary to pass the High School Equivalency Test. Passing the HiSET exam creates a pathway for an individual to move forward in a career field, join the military, begin a training program, or continue their education. While we focus primarily on HiSET students, we also work with students preparing for the ASVAB, ACT, SAT, GRE, or high school or college students seeking support on a particular subject.

How Does It Work?

  • The HISET exam is made up of five separate subject exams, each of which has to be taken and passed individually. 
  • The HiSET exam is intended to determine if a student can handle college level materials. It is not the”easy way out” as some may believe. 
  • To succeed on this path, students have to develop and demonstrate problem solving skills, critical thinking skills, and analytical reasoning skills. 
  • Our program helps you prepare for all 5 subject tests with a curriculum that is tailored to meet your specific needs and learning style.

To Enroll in Our Program, Individuals Must: 

  • Be at least 16 years old.
  • Complete the Online Registration Form from home or in person at TDLC on one of our computers.
  • Receive a call from a TDLC staff member about how to take a short practice exam online or at our center. This helps your instructor create a customized learning plan for you.
  • Talk to a staff member about scheduling your study time with one of our instructors, either in person or on Zoom.

How Much Does It Cost?

  • Instruction in our High School Equivalency Tutoring program is completely FREE for students.
  • There are fees to take the HiSET exams — We help our students with scholarships to cover testing fees for those who stay in the program and continue to make progress. 
  • We want to help you succeed! 

Who Can Take the HiSET Exam?

  • To register to take the HiSET exams, individuals must:
    • Not be enrolled or have graduated from high school
    • Be at least 16 years old
    • Be a resident of Missouri or Illinois
    • Have a government issued ID

How Long Does It Take To Pass?  

  • Each student moves through the program at their own pace. Each study session is intended to bring the student closer to passing the exam. There are 5 subjects that must work through, and each subject has it’s own exam. Once you complete your final subject exam, then you have completed the HiSET. 
  • Ideally, while in the tutoring program, students spend at least a couple hours per day in either 1:1 tutoring, self-study, or guided study under one of our tutors. The more time that you commit to your studies, the quicker you’ll move through the process. 
  • We understand that life commitments, family, and work sometimes get in the way. We are here to support you as you move through the curriculum, no matter how long it takes you to complete. 

Note: TDLC does not administer any exams, but we can assist students in finding an exam location and with registration.
